The Corsham Referee Web site (launched in 1998) is dedicated to Football (Soccer) Referee Training, and helping Referees' and football lovers world-wide to understand the Laws of Football (Soccer). I constructed and manage the site on my own - and it only costs me £22 pounds sterling per month! So if there are any budding Referee web masters out there - give it a go! You will enjoy it and will make contact with many colleagues and friends from all around the World.
The Corsham Referee web site contains advice, tips, interpretation, articles, many questions and answers, and interesting links covering Football and Refereeing matters. A monthly newsletter is also produced and sent out to Referees from all over the World.
I am not trying to sell you anything, neither will you be asked to sign-up to anything. I have created this site solely for my 'love of the game'. I would welcome any of your articles or information or web site links that would benefit Referees world-wide.
Please use my Discussion Board to generate discussion with colleagues. And please sign my Guest Book or provide me with any constructive web feedback. I am constantly adding to this web site, particularly the Questions and Answers sections that you will find at the bottom of all my Law pages. After a very long football career as a player at local level, I started Refereeing at the grand old age of 41. I was a Senior County Level 4 (ex Class 1) Referee for 10 years. I am an FA Licensed Referee Instructor, an FA Referee Assessor, and have been involved with 'Mentoring' new Referees. In addition to this, I am also on the Editorial Team of the combined Referees Association / Football Association magazine 'Refereeing'. I am also currently involved with the Referees' Association web site. The knowledge that I have gained from my life-long involvement in football and Refereeing is shared here with you, on the www.CorshamRef.net web site for the benefit of the game I love. |

I achieved promotion fairly quickly as a Referee, and belonged to my local Melksham Referees Society, where as an FA Licenced Referee Instructor, I continue to help my good friend, Chairman (Herbie Magri-Overend) with the training of new Referees and providing In-Service training for established Referees..
I have received many enquiry's and kind comments about this web site world-wide, and look forward to receiving many more from my colleagues around the world.
If you any questions about Refereeing that you are not sure of, email me, and I will only be too pleased to help you out.
If there are any Referees out there with myelodysplasia -(please get in touch).

Portrait of Julian Carosi
After a very long footballing career at local level in the beautiful County of Wiltshire here in England, I decided to hang-up my boots after receiving a broken jaw following a challenge with a goalkeeper. Every time that I walk across that particular spot (the pitch is in a recreational field that I use as a short cut to town) my hair stands on end. Its a great way of losing weight. I lost 2 stone over that particular Christmas! Turkey through a straw and minced mince pies!
After taking the Referees exam, I joined the local Melksham Referees Society, where as an FA Referee Instructor, I continue to help my dedicated Chairman and colleague Herbie Magri-Overend. I quickly become interested in the psychology of Refereeing, and the intricacies of the 17 Laws. I am a bit of a web geek, and noticed that there was a lack of useful information on the world-wide-web to help Referees (particularly in England). This led me to construct my web site The Corsham Referee in 1998, and this has become a growing popular reference point for Referees from all around the World. Involvement with my new web site, opened a few doors for me, and I was offered the post of Assistant Editor of The Football Referee (the national Referees Association magazine) and then became its Editor; this has now been combined, and a joint RA/FA magazine 'Refereeing' was launched on September 2006, of which I am on the Editorial Board.

THE report! (Source)
TWO Wiltshire County Cup finals involving teams from
Chippenham ended in disappointment and controversy.
The under 18's final between Chippenham Town and Salisbury City and the under 13's final
between Westinghouse Youth A and Croft Juniors were due to take place at the County
Ground, but were postponed and moved to new venues due to a waterlogged pitch.
Hardenhuish Park staged a controversial under 18's final, where three players were sent
off as Chippenham went down 1-0 to Salisbury City of the South West Counties League.
A first half Salisbury penalty proved decisive, but came after Chippenham had been reduced
to 10 men when skipper James Highmore was sent off for violent conduct on 20 minutes.
Referee Julian Carosi then dismissed Chippenham midfielder Alan Griffin for offensive,
insulting and abusive language and a Salisbury defender for hauling down Darren Andrews in
the second period. Andrews hit the crossbar and had a shot saved at the death as
Chippenham pressed for an equaliser.
Chippenham manager Colin Bush was upset the performance of the match officials had
overshadowed a prestigious cup final.
"The game was poorly handled by the officials from start to finish and that was disappointing, especially as it was the showpiece for Wiltshire under 18's football," he said. "It should have been a night for teams to express themselves on the park and is sad that all this game will be remembered for is the officials."
"We have had no disciplinary problems this season. I don't condone anything like retaliation or dissent, but the players were put under strain by the officials' decisions," he added.
Bush was proud of the way his side had battled against the odds and felt they had done enough to clinch the trophy.
"I was delighted with the character of the players. They were absolutely superb to keep going despite the obstacles that were placed in their way. When we were nine against ten we were the better side and should have won," he said. "Congratulations to Salisbury, though. Both sides should have finished the game with 11 men on the park," added Bush.
Referee Carosi defended his actions and said he had no choice but to dismiss the three players.
"It was a niggly match which needed tight control. I enjoyed the game, though, and was comfortable with my decisions," he said.
"The first sending off was for kicking, which is violent conduct. It was not in my view but was reported to me by the assistant referee and I had no option but to send the player off."
"Alan Griffin used offensive, insulting and abusive language towards me following a throw-in decision that went against Chippenham. Again, I had no option nut to send him off as it was shouted angrily towards me."
"The Salisbury player was sent off for preventing a clear goal-scoring opportunity," added Carosi.
Mike Benson, secretary of the Wiltshire FA, was at Hardenhuish Park for the showpiece of under 18's football in the county. He said he was unable to comment on the dismissals at this stage.
"The county FA cannot comment on the sending offs until such time as we have received the referee's report," said Benson.
Chippenham Town under 18's made amends for their defeat in the County Cup Final by beating Avebury 2-0 to lift the Subsidiary Cup on Sunday.
Ahh!!!!!!!! the joys of being a Referee!
Happy whistling to you all,
regards Julian Carosi
